We are the Creeps: a love song for my fellow weirdos

Have you ever noticed how many songs talk about not fitting in, and being weird or different? (Perhaps that’s just my particular music collection!) There are also lots of songs about finding your tribe, somewhere you can feel at home.

Indie Choir, and its home, Trinity Bar, is that place for me in Harrow. It’s an amazing community that has been a haven for loads of us over the years. You’re welcome whoever you are, and you’ll find people like you, who like you.

I’ve taken some inspiration from lots of the songs that we sing, and put them all together to make a tribute to all of them. See how many you can spot in the lyrics!

I’ll be performing it at Trinity on Saturday 27th September 🗓️ as Crushed Cadence, the first act on stage at the Indie Choir Universe gig night. 🎸Hope to see all you weirdos there! 🤘

We are the creeps and the weirdos
The humans who need to be loved
Oh, the mis-shapes and the misfits on the breeze

We’ve got no one to call
We’ve got no one at all, but the songs that we love

Oh, you and I, we don’t belong here
We’re single gulls without a flock
Oh, we’ll drift so far away along the breeze

We’ve got no one to call
We’ve got no one at all, but the songs that we love

But there’s a club, if you’d like to go
Where we can be happy, can be happy, can be happy, can be happy
In a room, with other faces just like you

There’s a light, and it never goes out
Be a hero, be a hero, be a hero, be a hero
Throw your homework onto the fire, sing the songs that you love

Our little group has always been a far out place for when
There is nowhere else to run
You feel alone, the walls are tumbling down, out of control
You will feel better, yes you will

Cos there’s a club, if you’d like to go
Where we can be happy, can be happy, can be happy, can be happy
In a room, with other faces just like you

There’s a light, and it never goes out
Be a hero, be a hero, be a hero, be a hero
Throw your homework onto the fire, sing the songs that you love

We are the creeps and the weirdos
We know how it feels to be loved
Super creeps to superheroes, you and me

We’ve got people to call
And we’ll give it our all, for the songs that we love

We are the creeps and the weirdos

Super creeps to superheroes

You and me

What’s your favourite song about not fitting in – or about a place where you can belong?
