The Emptiness: a nowhere place where you are free

I had the best time performing at the Indie Choir Universe gig last Saturday. Here’s a video (scroll down past all the tiresome text) of me playing my favourite song, called “The Emptiness”.

Maybe not everyone will identify with this song, but I reckon there’s a group of introverts out there who will really get it. I introduced it by saying “If you’ve ever stared into the void and found it quite attractive… then this song is for you.”

It’s about a fantasy place where you can escape from the world and be free, an endless bed of time to loll about in the ferment of your mind.

Here are the lyrics:

The Emptiness

This is a song for all of you who’ve ever dreamed of putting the world on pause until you’re ready

This is an anthem for anyone who needs to get away and be alone, for just a little while…

It’s not that you don’t love your fellow humans
Some of them are your very best friends
But like the air that you breathe, the space that you crave is a need

All by yourself
Anywhere, away from other minds
Alone

All by yourself
The emptiness, it swells inside your heart
Alone

Now you are free
The tyranny of company no more
Alone

Now you are free
The overwhelm will fade and die away
Alone

Obviously it’s not a place to stay forever! But just a lovely place of respite, to recover until you’re ready to face the world again. I hope it resonates.
